Local News / Apology To Child Migrants
Yesterday was a momentous day in the lives of former Child Migrants.
The whole day was dedicated to them, with an exhibition in Westminster Hall, presentations and most importantly of all, the Prime Minister giving a full and unreserved apology in the House.
Forty migrants from the Commonwealth, but mainly Australia, were invited and it was a privilege for me to be part of this memorable occasion.
I have been involved in this issue since taking over the Chair of the Health Select Committee in 2005, following on from the initial report in 1998.
It has been a very long and at times distressing journey, but I do hope that they can now gain some form of closure.
